BALLAGHADERIN
is a market town, in the parish of Kilcolman and barony of Costello, Co.
Mayo, head of a petty sessional and of a dispensary district, in
Castlereagh union, Protestant and catholic diocese of Achonry, and
terminus of a branch from Kilfree junction on the Midland Great Western
railway, 12 miles south-west from Boyle and 97 from Dublin. Petty
sessions are held every Tuesday. There is a constabulary barrack,
also a coast guard station. The area comprises 42 acres; the
population in 1891 was 1,266. |
