BALLAGHADERIN is a market town, in the parish of Kilcolman and barony of Costello, Co. Mayo, head of a petty sessional and of a dispensary district, in Castlereagh union, Protestant and catholic diocese of Achonry, and terminus of a branch from Kilfree junction on the Midland Great Western railway, 12 miles south-west from Boyle and 97 from Dublin.  Petty sessions are held every Tuesday.  There is a constabulary barrack, also a coast guard station.  The area comprises 42 acres; the population in 1891 was 1,266.

Post, Money Order, Telegraph Office and Savings Bank (Sub-office. Letters should have S.O. Co. Mayo added). - Mrs. Deane, postmistress.  Letters arrive at 4.20am and 2.30pm; dispatched at 10.10am and 8.10pm.

CASTLEMORE, a parish, partly in Co. Mayo, barony of Costello and partly in Co. Roscommon, barony of Frenchpark, Protestant and Catholic diocese of Achonry, 2 miles south-east from Ballaghaderin railway station, containing 25 townlands.  The Protestant and Catholic churches are both situated in the village of Ballaghaderin.  There are two National schools.  The area comprises 8,913 acres; the population in 1891 was 2,695
